| EAA Chapter 1232 January Newsletter As per our charter, EAA Chapter 1232 had an annual Board of Directors meeting on January 5th 2006. The Board of Directors consists of the present officers and the immediate prior chapter officers. Present were Carl von Doymi (President), Ken Mercer (Vice- President), Jim Swanson (Secretary/Treasurer) and Ron Jagles (past Secretary/Treasurer). The meeting was brief and covered the most immediate of topics. It was agreed that in-depth business would be best handled via e-mail. Topics covered were: MEETING TIMES Our Saturday meetings seem to work well for a lot of members but we usually see the same faces at each meeting whereas the chapter has many more members that we rarely see. Rather than overhaul the meeting dates it was decided that we will generally have our meetings on the 4th Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM. No change there. We will, however, pick a couple of monthly meetings and move them to a weeknight and see if we can attract members who may be busy in weekends. MAILERS A couple of years ago we sent invitations to all National EAA members in our geographic area and invited them to join our local chapter. Mailings are not cheap but a couple of people joined the chapter and their dues offset the cost of postage. Since it has been a while it was decided that we will do this again and hopefully attract new members. YOUNG EAGLES Certainly our annual Young Eagles day has been a great success and we will do it again in 2006. There are times during the year when members encounter youngsters that would like to get their first airplane ride. Chapter members in the past have performed such unscheduled flights and we would like to encourage more of this. If you find an individual that would like to take such a flight be sure to contact a chapter officer and we will arrange a flight if you cannot do so yourself. We also intend to do more community outreach this year in that we may identify some groups such as Scouts or special needs kids whereby we may get a small group together on a particular day and have a couple of members give them all rides on that day. SPEAKERS We have some speakers identified for this year and Carl says we will have a speaker for our January meeting. Nevertheless, we still have the need to fill in some dates so if you know of a person in the aircraft industry or know of someone with unique experience then let us work together to get a time slot for a presentation. FLY OUTS We have tried in the past to do some fly-outs. These seem to be bugged by variable weather as the summer can bring unpredictable stratus. Nevertheless, we are open to suggestions. JANUARY MEETING We will have our first meeting of 2006 on the 4th Saturday in January, the 28th, at 10 AM. The meeting will be in the CAP facility near the south parking lot at Gnoss Field, Novato. I am told that the speaker will be a pilot from bygone days. DUES Yep, Chapter dues for 2006 are now due. We have not discussed raising the price so that makes it still $25.00. | ||
