| EAA Chapter 1232 December Newsletter Greetings and Happy Holidays to EAA Chapter 1232 members and interested parties. This newsletter will serve to bring everyone up to date and introduce our (proposed) activities for 2005. On November 27, 2004 during our regular scheduled meeting the chapter elected new officers for 2005. The new officers are: Carl von Doymi – President Ken Mercer – Vice president and Young Eagles Coordinator Jim Swanson – Secretary/Treasurer. Many thanks to out-going officers; President - Phil Simon, Secretary/Treasurer - Ron Jagels, and Gordon Danielson, Ray Brice and Ken Mercer who took turns as Vice President. Their efforts gave us a successful and event filled 2004. On December 16, 2004 the Board of Directors met to decide the calendar of events for 2005 and other chapter business. Regular scheduled meetings will continue to be held on the fourth Saturday of the month with no meetings in November or December. We will schedule two BBQs during the year and we will try to have fly outs that circumvent the coastal fog and inland heat. Also planned is, of course, the Young Eagles event which we will have during the school year so that we can publicize the event more effectively. The proposed calendar follows, however, I would like to take this space to say a few words about Damon Rarey. Damon Rarey wrote the book "Laughter and Tears, a Combat Pilot's Sketchbooks of World War II Squadron Life." The book is about Damon's father, Captain George Rarey, a combat cartoonist and P-47 pilot who was killed in WWII. It is a terrific book for history or aviation buffs. We wanted to have Damon speak at a chapter meeting only to discover that he had passed away. He was only 57. If you or anyone you know is interested in his book or his life, go to www.rareybird.com. You can buy the book through the EAA store at shop.eaa.org/html/books_laughterandtears.html. There were only 2000 copies printed and the EAA site says only 400 remain so you may consider picking up a copy. This is the proposed 2005 calendar which we will discuss at the January 22nd meeting. Some of these events and speakers are firm, some are “penciled in”. Come to the January meeting and help kick off 2005 which looks exciting. Don’t let the “TBAs” deter you as we have quite a robust list of speakers we are lining up although if you know of a potential speaker please let us know. Speaking of speakers, just look at the February and March listings. Ever meet a Clipper pilot? How about a P-61 pilot? You will want to invite you family and friends to those meetings for sure. 2005 CALENDAR Regular Chapter meeting (4th Saturday 10:00AM) [fly-out or outing] ____________________________________________________________________ JAN 22 tba none FEB 26 Tom Kewin – Pan AM Clipper Pilot [Mar 19 Hiller museum - Phil Simon] MAR 26 Robert Tyldesley – P-61 Pilot [none] APR 23 tba [Apr 30 USS Hornet tour - Ted Graves] MAY 28 BBQ and meeting Speaker ?
