| Marin County Youth Aviation Day Saturday, June 26 Here is a summary of our event which was just held last Saturday. I would say that it was a success. There are things we will change and improve upon for next year, but overall the event was enjoyed by all the kids and adults who attended. 1. YOUNG EAGLES - We gave 81 Young Eagles rides. This is a 25% increase over last year. 2. PILOTS - We had nine pilots and their planes giving rides. A big THANK YOU to these great folks who gave their time, bought the fuel and shared their airplanes with the youth of Marin. It was worth it when you saw how thrilled some of these kids were after their rides. Jim Thomas - Aero Commander Tim Blofeld - Bulldog Phil Smith - RV-8 Blitz Fox - Nanchang Ray Brice - Twin Bonanza Dave Ward - Cherokee Marcelo Veristain - Comanche John Long - Comanche Andrew Wait - Bonanza 3. DISPLAY AIRCRAFT - We had ten aircraft on display. There was a great variety of planes including an open cockpit biplane, a military trainer, a twin, a classic aircraft, a light aircraft , home built aircraft and the USCG helicopter. DISPLAY and INFORMATION BOOTHS - There were display and information booths set up by the 99’s and the CAP, plus the Novato Fire District engine #6182 with four firemen. We showed aviation videos in the CAP building for the kids. 5. FOOD BOTH and YOUNG EAGLES REGISTRATION BOOTH - We had a food booth selling burgers and chips, beverages and cookies. Thanks to all the helpers who prepped the food, BBQ’d it and sold it. The Young Eagles Registration booth was busy all day registering and keeping track of the kids, escorting them to and from the aircraft and handing out literature, posters and “Learning to fly” booklets. This was a very challenging job as they were greatly understaffed all day 6. BOTTOM LINE – The $ are still being tallied . We made $___ profit on the food sales, but after the Porta Potti was paid for ($111.50) we ended up the a net profit of approximately $45. 7. VOLUNTEERS - This event could not have taken place without all the help and efforts of many volunteers from our chapter. Many thanks to all of them, especially: Jerry Bassler who delivered the BBQ from storage in his hangar at Smith Ranch. Mike Green who drove up to Petaluma and Santa Rosa to get the stanchions and then delivered them to Gnoss, helped us set them up, then picked them up and returned them.
