The Chapter had another great tour of the Castle AFB Museum. Not all of our planes made it out of Gnoss and Smith Ranch airports because of IFR weather, but those that did were treated to a great day at Castle.

We had a retired USAF pilot as our tour guide and he covered every airplane on the grounds. We were able to get inside the B-29 and the KC-97. We also toured the museum building and got a detailed explaination of the B-52 cockpit they have on display.

This visit was another great history lesson. We saw how the B-29 evolved into the B-50. We saw how Boeing took a B-29 fuselage, cut off the top half and added a larger diameter fuselage to develop the KC-97. The KC-97 on display at Castle is one of the few tanker models and it was very interesting to see the internal fuel tanks.
